The Science

Real information about how these treatments work, where they come from, and what the science says.

What are GLP-1 receptor agonists?

GLP-1 receptor agonists are a class of compounds that work with the body’s own hunger and satiety signaling. Semaglutide, one example, mimics glucagon-like peptide-1 — a hormone naturally produced by the intestine after eating. When GLP-1 binds to receptors in the brain, it signals satiety, slows gastric emptying, and reduces appetite. Semaglutide is administered by subcutaneous injection, typically once weekly, with dosing determined by your licensed OLIV Well provider based on your individual intake.

What is a dual agonist?

Tirzepatide is a dual agonist — it activates both GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors. While a single-receptor compound targets one pathway, tirzepatide engages two, influencing appetite signaling, satiety, and metabolic function. It is administered by subcutaneous injection, typically once weekly, with your specific protocol and dose determined by your licensed OLIV Well provider based on your individual intake.

What is NAD+, and why does it decline?

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme present in every cell in the body — not a peptide, but an electron carrier central to cellular energy metabolism. Within the mitochondria it plays a direct role in producing ATP, the body’s primary energy currency, and it also participates in DNA repair and in the activity of sirtuins, a class of proteins associated with cellular health and aging. NAD+ levels decline naturally with age, which is associated with reduced cellular energy output and increased susceptibility to cellular stress. Physician-prescribed NAD+ is intended to support cellular function by restoring or maintaining NAD+ availability, and is delivered as a nasal spray for convenient at-home use.

What are copper peptides?

GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide — a sequence of three amino acids (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) complexed with copper. It is present in human plasma, saliva, and urine, and its concentration in plasma declines with age. GHK-Cu has been studied for its role in skin remodeling, including the signaling of collagen and elastin synthesis, and for its involvement in wound repair processes. Applied topically under physician direction, it is compounded to pharmaceutical-grade specifications rather than the widely varying concentrations found in retail products.

How do PDE5 inhibitors work?

PDE5 inhibitors — the class that includes tadalafil and sildenafil — work by blocking the phosphodiesterase type 5 enzyme. Blocking that enzyme promotes smooth muscle relaxation in the penile vasculature and increases blood flow in response to sexual stimulation. Both compounds have decades of clinical research behind them: sildenafil received FDA approval for erectile dysfunction in 1998, tadalafil in 2003. A compounded multi-agent formulation lets a licensed provider prescribe a combination that isn’t available in a single commercially manufactured product, calibrated to your individual response profile.

What is a GHRH analog?

Sermorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) — the hypothalamic peptide that stimulates the pituitary gland to produce and secrete growth hormone. Unlike direct hormone replacement, a GHRH analog works by stimulating the body’s own pituitary function, so growth hormone is released in a pulsatile, physiologically natural pattern and the body’s regulatory feedback loop stays intact. Growth hormone levels decline naturally with age, and that decline is associated with changes in sleep architecture, body composition, and recovery capacity. Sermorelin is prescribed through OLIV Well for general wellness, sleep quality, and longevity support only — not for performance enhancement or muscle-building applications.

How are OLIV Well’s compounded treatments regulated?

Every treatment prescribed through OLIV Well is fulfilled through an FDA-registered, 503A-compliant compounding pharmacy — produced under the same regulatory standards that apply to any licensed pharmacy in the country. Compounded treatments are not FDA-approved for specific indications, but they are compounded at FDA-registered, 503A-licensed facilities using ingredients that meet U.S. Pharmacopeia standards. A prescription from a licensed provider is required, and your provider reviews your complete health profile before prescribing.
